What?? It's not like I plan on going into details!
[ she actually hadn't meant to text robin about it to begin with because she knows it's totally weird to talk about something like this with someone who's friends with steve - like, best friends even, shit - but obviously some divine power didn't want nancy to text candice about it ( not that she even talks to candice all that much outside of school newspaper meetings, but. like. maybe she doesn't actually have that many friends that she feels like she can talk to about this stuff. or any real friends at all anymore. and maybe hasn't since barb disappeared. maybe that's it. but she's not going to think about that, yikes. ) which is why the text ended up in robin's inbox. ]
As you know, Steve's been going through a weird patch with dating, and Jonathan and I broke up last week ( which you might not know, actually, now that I think about it. it's kind of a long story, but I can tell you about it later ), and none of it feels great?
So we went for a drive, that's all. Like friends do. And then we were just two friends making out and then maybe doing a little more than making out. So. Yeah. Just like a back rub.
[ this just in: steve and nancy are actually idiots. you're friends with two idiots, buckley. ]
1. That was so not a ramble, that was concise. A short timeline. Practically a bulleted list!
2. Good? Wow, thanks...
3. If by "idea" you mean "reality", I'd say I'm pretty committed to it.
[ 1. it was absolutely a ramble, and if they were talking and not typing it would have been eeeeven worse. 2. she knows what she meant by "good" but she refuses to acknowledge that. 3. ..okay this one's actually tricky because robin is steve's best friend, right, and maybe they're starting to become friends too, but the last thing nancy wants to do is give her a reason to think she's actually just messing with him or something. but she's also not ready to try verbalizing wwwhatever it is she and steve are doing here. or trying to figure out. or any of it. ]
1. look, I'm an expert on rambles if NOTHING else, that was a ramble. it's okay!
2. given what happened after - yeah, good. never mind.
[that was absolutely something Robin probably shouldn't have defended, could've let that one slide without answer, but that's just not in her programming]
3. okay, but, like... I'm not trying to make this conversation super serious or anything and he's definitely capable of speaking for himself, mostly at least, well not to our boss but that's a very different situation, but
like, you know he's absolutely terrible at being casual or chill with or about anything that matters, right?
1. ... Okay, true. Fine, you have a point. But don't sell yourself short, I'm sure rambling isn't the only thing you have some expertise.
2. After what? Wait. Huh?
[ well now that's-! definitely got her attention. but then there's bulletpoint number three and god, it's so- tricky. how does she explain that she doesn't have a single ounce of chill in her body either, which is probably why they ended up making out in the car to begin with but whatever but she's trying to, with this? that she doesn't want to jump ahead, or rush anything, or put a name to something, because holy shit she doesn't want to mess things up this time. how she handles all of this now is too important to her, even if they ultimately end up agreeing to just be friends. ]
3. I do know. I really do, I promise. And right now it has to be "casual", because we haven't figured out what else it is, or can be, just yet. We were talking about it last night, and the only thing we figured out for sure is that we need to keep talking about it. Because that's where we went wrong. I mean, both of us were still trying to figure things out about ourselves back then, that was part of it, but actually talking about the important stuff wouldn't have hurt.
He's the one that caved and started flirting with me first, by the way. He's going to try and say it was me, but that's total bullshit.
[nope, fully ignoring the first two points now, because 1 would require her to say nice things about herself right now which feels weird and 2 she does not have a good explanation for]
3. okay. okay, good. that's all I need to know, really. I mean that you owed me any type of answer on it but... you know.
oh, don't worry. I already know he was the one that caved in first on that front. that's just... well, it was inevitable.
tfln; @howandwhen - i'm just going to label this "slight crack @ a very nebulous canon point". heh.

that label feels absolutely perfect
okay 1) I knew you had a ramble in you given the right scenario. I knew it
2) I did not know that you broke up, but good
3) - okay. um. how committed are you to this
delusionidea that all of that was "just friends" activity?phew ok good
