[ it kind of scares the hell out of her, knowing how far he'd go to protect them all. the kids, especially. she's seen what it looks like when steve "does anything" to keep them all safe, and quite honestly, she'd be very okay with him never getting beat to hell ever again. but.. she's not going to admit that at this very moment, because she doesn't want to drag the mood down either. plus, she maybekindasorta has a habit of ditching personal safety if it keeps other people from getting hurt, too. she'd insist that it's always a calculated risk, but that's not true. it's a reflex, at this point. and wielding a gun usually means she can at least keep a safe distance, but not always.
she still can't wrap her head around how steve managed to get to the mall in time to t-bone the shit out of billy's car right before he hit her, last summer. and it doesn't help that her brain can very easily pull up the alternative versions of that event - if he had gotten there a second sooner, or a second later? which always leads to what if she took a second longer to get through watergate..?
shit shit shit. nope. not the time to think about that. ]
I take it back. I mean it's still poetic, but it heavily implies that it's one-sided. oh That's why I don't like "babysitter" anymore, either. It started that way, maybe, but it's not like that anymore. you know that, right?
